Your First Dental Visit
During your first visit to our office, we will:
- Review your medical and dental history
- Complete a comprehensive oral exam
- Chart all existing conditions
- Complete an oral cancer screening
- Clinically examine teeth for decay
- Perform a periodontal (gum disease) exam
- Evaluate temporomandibular joints (the jaw joints)
- Take digital impressions and intraoral digital images
Following your new patient exam, we will review the information gathered and consult with you to discuss all treatment options.
Professional Dental Cleaning
In addition to keeping good at-home oral hygiene, we recommend biannual professional cleanings and examinations. A professional cleaning will remove calculus and bacteria in places your toothbrush and floss have missed. At your periodic cleaning appointments, our skilled hygienists will conduct a thorough exam of your teeth, gum tissues, and supporting bone. Depending on your specific needs, our hygienists will apply fluoride varnishes, localized antibiotics, and root desensitizers to protect your teeth and gums.
The American Dental Association recommends a minimum of two visits per year for an oral examination and professional dental cleaning. Digital x-rays are required once per year so that our dentists can see the areas between your teeth and evaluate your bone structure. Some patients benefit from more frequent visits; will recommend a schedule that is best suited for your specific condition or dental concerns.
